Basic Requirement for the Architect 0808 Series:
A. Degree:
Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in architecture or in a related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following:
structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems. OR B. Combination of Education and
Experience:
College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by at least one of the following:
(1) Related Curriculum - Degree in architectural engineering provided the completed course work in architectural engineering provided knowledge, skills, and abilities substantially equivalent to those provided in the courses specified in statement A above, or (2)
Experience:
1 year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in architecture. In the absence of any college courses, 5 years of such experience is required. This experience must have demonstrated that you have acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture. Specialized Experience Requirements:
GS-14:
One year of specialized experience includes meeting at least FOUR OF THE FOLLOWING:
1) Provide leadership to a team of multi-disciplined professionals both directly and through subordinate supervisors; 2) perform supervisory duty to include exercising full range of personnel management responsibilities; 3) resolve complex engineering, environmental and construction issues at the project site to facilitate timely and cost effective project delivery; 4) develop long range staffing plans based upon income projections in accordance with established higher level guidance to meet quality, schedule and cost objectives; 5) provide advice and assistance on construction project modifications, claims, negotiations, cost estimate development, payments, schedule evaluation and closeout actives; and 6) apply applicable regulations, laws, policies, and guidance on complex and controversial construction projects. In addition to the above requirement this position requires the below educational requirements:
1) Baccalaureate degree from an accredited educational institution (you must submit your transcripts) or 2) Possess significant potential for advancement to levels of greater responsibility and authority and At least 24 semester credit hours of study at an accredited institution of higher education from among the following disciplines:
accounting, business, finance, law, contracts, purchasing, economics, industrial management, marketing, quantitative methods, or organization and management or At least 24 semester credit hours of study at an accredited institution in the individual's AT&L Career Field and either 12 semester credit hours from among the above-listed disciplines or training in these disciplines equivalent to the 12 semester credit hours. (Training courses that carry an American Council of Education (ACE) credit recommendation may be used for equivalency.) ACE credit recommendations may only be used to meet the 24 semester hour standard for Acquisition Corps membership if those credit recommendations have been accepted by and appear on an official transcript from an accredited institution of higher education. DAWIA provides the option to substitute equivalent training for the 12 semester credit hours applied to the 24 hours in the individual's AT&L Career Field and 12 hours in the covered disciplines. This does not apply to the option for 24 semester credit hours in the covered disciplines. Selective Placement Factor:
This position requires one of the following:
(a) current state issued Professional Engineering Registration (P.E.) or (b) current state issued Registration as a Professional Architect. You must include a copy of your current (not just the initial Registration) Engineering, or Architect license with your application package. If you fail to provide a copy of your current state issued Engineering, or Architect registration your application packet will be found incomplete. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
